Commitment to Members
STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT TO MEMBERS
We are a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative committed to providing our members with outstanding financial services through a variety of savings and loan products. Our philosophy of "People Helping People" shall be carried out through offering our members a variety of low cost products and services, and helping our members to become financially self-sufficient and successful. We place high importance on consumer education and teaching financial thriftiness. We will continually demonstrate the value of credit union membership in all areas of operations and shall always treat our members with respect and dignity while assisting them in reaching all of their financial goals.
Northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1954 under the name of Vint Hill Federal Credit Union. The name change occurred in 1994 as the credit union was expanding and the United States Government began to downsize effectively closing the military branch located at Vint Hill Farms Station. Northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union began opening its doors to new select employee groups (SEGs) located within the counties of Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange, Rappahannock and Madison. Despite the tremendous change the credit union maintains two full service offices in Warrenton and Culpeper. We continue to expand our region of SEGs and look forward to becoming a Community Charter in the future.
SERVICE TO MEMBERS
Each member becomes an owner of the credit union by opening a shares/savings account. The motto "Once a Member Always a Member," allows someone to be a member for life as long as they maintain their share account with Northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union. Members enjoy all the benefits of a member-owned financial cooperative, which includes free share draft/checking accounts, lower interest on loan products and better returns on share/savings products; as all of the profit made by the credit union is returned to our members. We also review all financial decisions on a case by case evaluation basis. Therefore, offering assistance and education to many of our members who are trying to rebuild and/or better their financial situation. "Not For Profit, Not for Charity, But For Service" represents good business practices that ensure the financial strength of our credit union on behalf of our members. We strive to help our members understand creditworthiness and obtain their goals through education of financial practices.
SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY
We strive to raise the overall level of social and economic well being of our community through public service activities such as direct financial support and service contributions to worthwhile organizations and activities within our community. Thus, strengthening ties within our community and creating a supportive and nurturing atmosphere for everyone.
INVOLVEMENT AND COMMITMENT TO THE CREDIT UNION MOVEMENT
We shall continue to participate in all credit union activities to build and strengthen our unique credit union movement by providing resources to others within the credit union community. We shall preserve the credit union democratic principles on all levels of government and in other appropriate public forums. In addition, we shall participate in local, state, and national cooperative activities as appropriate in order to build and maintain relationships with others within the national cooperative movement.
CONCLUSION
Northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union shall continue to communicate our philosophy of "People Helping People" in a meaningful way so that members, potential members, legislators, regulators, and the community at large will understand, appreciate, and support the unique role of a member-owned financial cooperative and how it impacts their lives and the success of our community.
